Garage Door Safety

It is very important to test the safety reversing mechanisms to ensure your openers are safety compliant. Failure to do so may put the garage door users and those nearby in danger.

There is three easy steps to be sure your garage door opener is safe and secure:

·         Lay an object that is at least 2 inches higher on the ground in the door’s path, and press the close button. The door should reverse off this object.

·         Near the bottom of each side of your garage door, check to confirm properly installed photo eyes (black sensors), mounted no higher than 6 inches off the floor. If your operator does not have photo eyes, your should have your garage door opener replaced with a new model which offers this standard standard feature.

Use an object to block the photo eye, and press the Garage Door Opener’s close button. The door should reverse off this object.

garage door spring replacement

    Garage Door Spring Replacement

garage door spring replacement. Broken garage door springs is the most dangerous and difficult job to perform regarding garage doors and their parts.

it is usually pretty obvious when a spring is broken, the door won't work and the spring is in two pieces. Broken springs will need to be replaced.

There are two different types of garage door springs used on sectional doors: torsion and side mounted spring. When the door is close, the garage door spring tension is high, when the door is open, the pressure drops. If you have one broken spring, both door springs should be replaced, otherwise the other spring, already worn, is likely to fail. The most important safety tip to remember when replacing garage door springs is to replace both of them at once to avoid causing further damage.

Torsion spring

Torsion springs are present on the sides of your garage door. These are long and heavy spring that make lifting easier by being under initial tension with the door closed above and parallel to the top of the garage door frame. The tension in the coiled spring is what makes it easier to open the door from a closed position.

Side-Mounted Torsion

Side-mounted or extension springs are heavy, long and mount to both sides on top of the door track and use a round rod to connect to the sides of the door and come under tension when the garage door is closed to make lifting the door easier.

Is your garage door spring broken?

When the door is close, the garage door spring tension is high position, when the door is open, the pressure drops. If you have one broken spring, both door springs should be replaced (torsion and side mounted springs), otherwise the other spring, already worn, is likely to fail. The result will be dealing with the same emergency again.
